The ego or “I” is the result of the sum, combination and structuring of our experiences that may come from previous life events that were not integrated or from programs inherited unconsciously from our ancestors or, perhaps, from projects and desires.
From our parents during conception, through processes that have been transmitted to us by our mother, during pregnancy, childbirth, up to three years and throughout childhood until adolescence.
Although our limited consciousness does not understand and tries to rebel against such facts to avoid suffering, we must recognize that they have been the appropriate experiences for our evolutionary development.
The set of these experiences and the interpretation that we make of them will create a “defense system”, a series of action mechanisms that will allow us to express ourselves and adapt to this world, it will be the vehicle that will enable us to travel our days throughout our life, lifetime.
This mental construction, called the ego, is the character that we have created about ourselves, a self-image with which we identify ourselves and that will constitute our personality, even coming to believe that we are that.
The ego is like a bridge between the human and the divine; this bridge can unite or separate us.
It can be said that the ego is the one that separates us from our Essence, but, at the same time, it can be considered that it is the springboard through which we can reach it again.
For example, pride separates us, but if we become aware and transcend it, it connects us with the Self.
