Otosclerosis (from the Greek otós: ear + sklerós: hardening) is characterized by abnormal bone growth in the middle ear that can lead to fixation of the stapes, preventing its normal movement and, as a result, causing hearing loss.
Ear problems indicate that we have difficulty hearing what is happening within ourselves or around us.
They can also reflect a conflict related to not being able to grasp an auditory nudge (kind words).
When we experience inner ear problems, we are living through an emotional conflict of separation related to something or someone we enjoy listening to, or conversely, we want to distance ourselves from words that hurt us.
“I am separated from, or don’t want to separate from, the words of…”
“I want to separate myself from these hurtful words that disturb my understanding of my life.”
Otosclerosis manifests if I have experienced or am currently experiencing a major separation conflict in which, sooner or later, there has been a very powerful “noise or crash.”
This could have been a door slamming, a gunshot, an explosion, the sound of bombs falling, etc., that made us feel in mortal danger and even took our breath away.
Other conflicts that can cause otosclerosis include:
Fear of hearing truths, criticism, or information that could destabilize us.
Not wanting to hear about the past, memories, or painful situations from childhood or family.
When we feel our words aren’t being heard, and in response, we “close” our ears to others.
Because of family problems we can’t bear to hear, we close our ears to protect ourselves.
Right Ear: “I don’t hear something I want to hear,” “I only want to hear what I like.” (Thwarted desire)
Left Ear: “I hear something I don’t want to hear,” “I’m hearing things I don’t want to hear anymore.” (Thwarted action)
It’s important to find out if there have been any of the aforementioned conflicts within the family and if we’re carrying that pattern.
