Rectal prolapse occurs when the internal lining of the rectum protrudes through the anus, exposing its mucosa.
From this perspective, the body physically displaces an organ when the mind feels it can no longer bear the weight of an emotional or familial burden.
On a symbolic level, the rectum represents the ability to evacuate what is no longer useful or to retain what is necessary.
This physical descent is interpreted as a biological response to conflicts related to feeling exposed, humiliated, or unable to retain or release a situation perceived as unbearable or “dirty.” “I can’t hold this anymore.”
The anus represents the most hidden or “dark” part of the body.
A prolapse can be interpreted as an unconscious fear that others will discover something shameful about oneself.
Or, conversely, as a desperate need to expel something unpleasant from the environment.
The rectal prolapse shows me the need I have to eliminate a toxic bite, a filth that has been done to me and that I want to bring to light, to be known and seen by everyone.
It’s associated with the feeling of having “lost my dignity” or that something intimate or shameful has been exposed to others.
Likewise, rectal prolapse can refer to a loss of support or “ground”: feeling that the foundation of one’s life (family, financial, or emotional) is crumbling and there’s nothing to hold onto.
It also speaks to a situation of separation or loss related to a territory (real or symbolic).
Conflict of direction or identity: feeling completely lost regarding the path to take, or feeling that one’s own territory or family is slipping through one’s fingers.
Or, perhaps, it refers to a lack of identity, of identification, or of the place I occupy in that territory.
“It’s impossible to find my place in this family. I feel unable to find my place, and this makes me angry.”
“I feel like I’ve been ‘expelled’ from my territory, home, job, team, etc.”
